Lighting That Transforms: A Day-to-Night Vision

At the heart of every unforgettable event is a feeling — a mood, a tone, a sense of place. For this editorial shoot at Equestria West, Phos Events set out to capture that magic by designing a reception space that transitions seamlessly from soft daylight romance to an opulent evening celebration. Their vision? To show how lighting, when used intentionally, can become the true star of the design story.

Designing with Light in Mind

From the beginning, the Phos team approached the concept with one goal: make lighting the anchor of the space. While natural light brought softness and warmth to the space during the day, the transformation after sunset was where the design truly came to life. Pinspotting elevated tabletop details, while draping and structure were illuminated to add depth and mood.

We wanted a reception environment that felt warm, romantic, and luxurious. By capturing both daytime and nighttime looks, we were able to highlight the dramatic difference lighting makes as the day progresses. We designed knowing certain elements would only fully come alive after dark.

Draping as a Design Foundation

A key element in this transformation was the use of draping. Not only did it soften the venue’s existing structure, but it also defined the event space and created a canvas for layered lighting.

“Draping helped us create a ‘room within a room’—a more intimate, elevated experience,” says Adam. It was also a practical solution for working with high ceilings, making the environment feel both grand and inviting.

A Chandelier Moment

To make a bold statement, Phos used a trio of chandelier styles, led by their show-stopping Majestic chandeliers. These high-impact pieces were paired with more delicate Penelope and Matilda fixtures, creating a balanced, immersive look. “Layering chandeliers gave the space texture and intention,” Adam notes. The result was a cohesive lighting design that felt as curated as the tablescape beneath it.

Trends on the Rise

Phos is seeing more couples lean into statement lighting, using bold pieces that double as décor. Layered lighting is another rising trend, combining ambient, decorative, and task lighting to guide the flow of the evening. And with advancements in lighting control, couples can now shift the vibe from golden-hour glow to high-energy dance floor with just a tap.

People are thinking beyond just function — they want lighting that enhances the mood and adds personality.
